Our History
The Healing Center For Grieving Children
began after the founder, Diane Oran was trained by the internationally recognized
Dougy Center For Grieving Children, located in Portland Oregon. The Dougy
Center has been in operation for 20 years and currently serves 275 children.
It was spotlighted on ABC’s “20/20” television program and has served as a model
for 85 programs throughout the world. After her husband died, Diane was a
participant at one of the model centers in Maine. She decided to move back
near her home town, Sacramento, and wanted this wonderful program to be available
for families in the Sacramento area.
The Center began offering groups in Diane’s
home Davis in 2002. In 2005, the Center moved to a more central location in
Sacramento that has play and group rooms and an enclosed outdoor play area.
Current participants have experienced both sudden deaths and deaths
after lengthy illnesses of their loved ones.
